8 Nt Southern Caribbean & Perfect Day
Itinerary

Fort Lauderdale, Florida
United States
Day 1Like many southeast Florida neighbors, Fort Lauderdale has long been revitalizing. In a state where gaudy tourist zones often stand aloof from workaday downtowns, Fort Lauderdale exhibits consistency at both ends of the 2-mile Las Olas corridor. The sparkling look results from upgrades both downtown and on the beachfront. Matching the downtown's innovative arts district, cafés, and boutiques is an equally inventive beach area, with hotels, cafés, and shops facing an undeveloped shoreline, and new resort-style hotels replacing faded icons of yesteryear. Despite wariness of pretentious overdevelopment, city leaders have allowed a striking number of glittering high-rises. Nostalgic locals and frequent visitors fret over the diminishing vision of sailboats bobbing in waters near downtown; however, Fort Lauderdale remains the yachting capital of the world, and the water toys don’t seem to be going anywhere.

Mason Jar℠
REAL. SOUTHERN. EATS.
Southern cuisine is not just about having a meal. Like all the best comfort food, it soothes your soul – and spurs good conversation and an unforgettable time to boot. The Mason Jar℠ Southern Restaurant and Bar brings that homespun vibe on the new Wonder of the Seas℠ with unique takes on American Low Country classics, Bayou staples and some of the best BBQ you’ll find on a cruise ship. The kind where the meat falls right off the bone and tickles your tastebuds with smoky flavours and bold spices. And when it comes to brunch, nothing beats Southern eats. Whether you fancy savoury dishes or dessert pretending to be breakfast, you’ll find brunch favourites with a spin. Try the flaky Breakfast Biscuits with sausage gravy, cheddar and bacon-onion jam or an ooey, gooey Sweet-Tooth Cinnamon Roll. Just be sure to return in the evening, because you don’t want to miss classic dishes like Gran’s Fried Chicken, a buttermilk-brined star of the Supper menu – it’s Southern magic on a plate. Other suppertime standouts you’re sure to love include rich Lobster 'n’ Crawfish Gumbo and Crab Beignets served with creamy lump crab dip. You can keep the good times rolling at any time of day with libations like spiked peach tea or a decadent shake made with peanut butter, banana and bourbon.

MENU HIGHLIGHTS
Southern cuisine has never been this good. The Mason Jar℠ Southern Restaurant & Bar serves so many outstanding dishes, you’ll want to try them all. Like the mouthwatering Crab Beignets or the Fried Green Tomatoes golden-fried Classic Po’Boy – and that’s just to start your meal. For meat lovers, there are hearty meat 'fixins', including the Beef Brisket cooked to perfection and served with your choice of two traditional southern sides like coleslaw, macaroni cheese and Cajun fries. And when it comes to brunch, the Blueberry Johhnycakes are where it’s at. Don’t miss these savoury cornmeal flatbreads slathered with BBQ pulled pork, crispy chicken skin and torn mint. Be sure to save room for dessert because the Warm Bread Puddin’ made with buttery croissants, soaked in rich vanilla-bourbon custard and topped with creamy vanilla drizzle has your name on it.
PRO TIP
Many believe the po-boy sandwich originated in 1929 in New Orleans when the city’s Electric Street Railway workers went on strike. The owners of the Martin Brothers’ French Market gave away free sandwiches to the strikers and would refer to them as 'a poor boy'!
