Before you cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)
Here's some useful information before you set sail on your NCL cruise.
Frequently Asked Questions
To complete online check-in for an NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) cruise, you'll need to access the Norwegian Cruise Line's website or app, specifically the "My NCL" section, starting 21 days before your sail date. The process should be completed no later than 3 days prior to sailing. This online check-in streamlines the process, allowing you to finalize your documents and paperwork before arriving at the port.
Once Online Check-In is complete for all guests in your stateroom, and your cruise is paid in full, you should be able to download your eDocs. Please note your eDocs will only be available to download 24 hours after Online Check-In has been completed. It is important to download your eDocs ahead of time as they will become unavailable 72 hours prior to sailing.
Make sure you also take advantage of the all-new NCL app which will come in handy both before and during your cruise holiday!
Passports are required for all cruises. Please check that your passport has at least 6 months validity from the return date of your trip. If you or any member of your party is not a British citizen or holds a non-British passport, you must check passport and visa requirements with the Embassy or Consulate of the country(ies) to or through which you are intending to travel. Please always refer to the Foreign Travel Advice by Gov.uk here.
While it is not a a condition of booking that all guests hold fully comprehensive travel insurance that specifically covers cruise holidays, it is strongly recommended that Guests hold adequate cover due to the potential for unexpected events before, during, and after a cruise. Cover must be valid for the entire duration of your chosen itinerary, provides full health coverage for all pre-existing conditions and the costs of medical repatriations, plus specific cover for covid-19 related issues. It should also include Personal Luggage insurance since there is limited liability for loss or damage. Please refer to our trusted partner Just Travel Cover who offer comprehensive cover options from multiple insurers, have no upper age limit, and cover for hundreds of pre-existing medical conditions.
The voltage on board is 110 and partly 220 volts. For European appliances a converter is needed (U.S. norm). Hairdryers are provided in all staterooms & Suites. Irons and ironing boards can be requested through housekeeping or the Guest Services Desk.
NCL cruises operate on a "Freestyle Cruising" dress code, meaning there are no formal nights or specific dress code requirements for most venues. Guests can generally dress in resort casual attire throughout the cruise, including the main dining rooms and specialty restaurants. While there are no mandatory formal nights, some passengers may choose to dress up on certain evenings. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required. Tank tops for men, flip flops, baseball caps, visors and jeans that are overly faded, with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted in main dining rooms or speciality restaurants.
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) allows each guest to bring two pieces of checked luggage on board, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds (22 kg) each. Additionally, guests are permitted to bring a carry-on bag.
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) charges automatic daily service charges (gratuities) for all guests and an additional 20% gratuity on certain services like beverages, spa treatments, and specialty dining. The gratuity charges are US$ 20 per guest per day (for guests 3 years and older) for Studios, Inside, Oceanview and Balcony Staterooms as well as Club Balcony Suites. For Suites and The Haven Suites, the service charge will be US$ 25 per guest per day (for guests 3 years and older).
Certain staff positions (e.g., concierge, butler, youth programme staff and beverage service) provide service on an individual basis to only some guests and do not benefit from the overall service charge. We encourage those guests to acknowledge good service from these staff members with appropriate gratuities.
NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) accommodates various dietary restrictions and allergies, including gluten-free, dairy-free, kosher, halal, and vegetarian options. Special dietary requests should be submitted at least 45 days prior to sailing. Any requests inside 45 days cannot be guaranteed. NCL can arrange to have no sugar and low sodium meals for guests with those specific medical dietary restrictions upon request.
